Pixverse Video Expand: reframe any video to a new aspect ratio by outpainting
Reframe any video to a new aspect ratio with AI outpainting — no cropping, stretching, or black bars. The subject stays centered and full size while PixVerse grows the frame to fit the platform.

Pixverse Video Expand, made by PixVerse, reframes a clip to a new aspect ratio without cropping it, using AI outpainting. Instead of cutting pixels to fit a new frame, it generates fresh scene around your original footage. The subject stays centered and full size while the clip grows to fill the target shape. Unlike PixVerse v6 Extend, which adds new seconds of action, Expand changes the frame and keeps the same length and audio.

Reframe to any target ratio by outpainting
Give Video Expand a clip and a target ratio, and it grows the canvas to match. Your original footage sits as a band inside the new frame while the model paints matching scene into the added area, keyed to the source lighting and perspective. It supports six targets: 16:9, 9:16, 21:9, 4:3, 3:4, and 1:1. The hero reframe below takes a 16:9 stage clip to a 9:16 vertical at 1080p for Reels, TikTok, and Shorts.
The dancer stays centered and full size as fresh stage and floor replace the letterbox area, with no black bars and no stretching.
Expand in either direction, subject intact
New pixels are added around your footage, never on top of it, so the subject keeps its position and size. Expand works both ways: widen a vertical clip or heighten a widescreen one. The example below takes a phone-shot 9:16 meerkat clip to 16:9, filling the sides rather than the top and bottom.
The meerkat stays uncropped on its mound while the newly generated sides extend the plain horizon convincingly.
Examples to try
Square feed post
The potter's wheel and clay-covered hands hold their original band; 1:1 adds the least new area from a 16:9 source, so it is the cleanest reframe to start from.
Ultrawide hero banner
The astronaut keeps walking as one cinematic strip; 21:9 invents the most side area, so pick a simple, extendable background for the cleanest fill.
Recommended settings
Pick a target that differs from your source, then set the resolution for your delivery.
| Setting | Value | When |
|---|---|---|
| aspect_ratio | A ratio different from the source (9:16, 1:1, 21:9, 4:3, 3:4, 16:9) | Match the platform — 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and Shorts, 1:1 for a feed post, 21:9 for a website hero |
| quality | 1080p | Final, high-resolution social verticals; drop to 720p to draft and iterate faster |
Good to know
- Input is MP4, MOV, or WebM up to 50 MB and 30 seconds. The output keeps the clip's length and its audio, and cost follows the input duration, so trim to the moment you need first.
- Pick a target ratio different from the source so there is room to generate. The bigger the jump, like 16:9 to 9:16, the more new scene the model has to invent.
- Busy or highly detailed backgrounds can show outpainting artifacts on extreme ratio changes. Stable shots with a clear subject and an extendable background — skies, walls, stages, streets — outpaint cleanest.
- Expand reframes existing footage. It does not add time (that is PixVerse v6 Extend), change the subject, or raise the source resolution beyond the chosen quality.
Use it from the API
Send the source video URL, a target aspect_ratio, and a quality; the response returns the reframed clip at the same length with its audio kept.
