Seedance 2.5. Thirty seconds, one take.

ByteDance's video model renders up to 30 seconds with native audio, from a prompt, a still or up to 50 references, and edits or extends the clips you already have.

Seedance 2.5 is a video generation model from ByteDance that turns a text prompt, a first frame or up to 50 image, video and audio references into clips of 4 to 30 seconds with native audio, and edits or extends clips you already have. On Segmind it runs through one API key at 480p, 720p or 1080p from $0.1065 per second, or up to 4K with Seedance 2.5 Upscaled (as of 29 Oct 2026).

Single take

Thirty seconds. No cuts.

Seedance 2.5 holds one shot for up to 30 seconds, twice the 15-second limit of Seedance 2.0. Here the same cook, bowl and camera travel from a night market to a rooftop, and the sound changes with the place.

Prompt and settings

One continuous 30-second take, no cuts, handheld steadicam. A young Thai cook in a white apron carries a steaming bowl of noodles through a crowded night market in Bangkok, weaving past sizzling woks, hanging lanterns and neon signs, the camera following just behind her shoulder. She turns into a narrow side alley, climbs a steep metal staircase, and steps out onto a rooftop where four friends sit around a small table under warm string lights, the city skyline glowing behind them. She sets the bowl down, the friends cheer and reach for chopsticks, and the camera drifts past them toward the skyline. Natural night light, shallow depth of field, cinematic. Audio: market chatter, oil sizzling, a radio playing old Thai pop, footsteps on metal stairs, rooftop wind, laughter.

Seedance 2.5 Edit Change one thing. Keep the take.

Seedance 2.5 reworks a clip you already have from one instruction: a new colourway, a different jacket, another season. The performance, timing and camera move stay, so a take you like survives the change.

Before
After the edit

One instruction turned the matte black bottle into emerald glass with a gold cap. The beam, the mist, the droplets and the slow push-in carried over from the original 8-second shot.

Prompt and settings

Edit @Video 1: change the perfume bottle to deep emerald green glass with a brushed gold cap. Keep the NORD 04 label, the slate pedestal, the water droplets, the light beam, the mist, the camera move and the timing exactly the same.

How to edit a clip

  1. 1

Send the clip as @Video 1

Any clip of 4 to 30 seconds, MP4 or MOV, up to 200 MB: a Seedance render or your own footage.

  2. 2

Say what changes, then what stays

Name the one change, then list what to keep: the subject, the performance and timing, the framing and the camera move.

  3. 3

    Set duration to -1

With aspect_ratio on adaptive, the edit comes back at the length and frame of the clip you sent.

What teams change

  • The colour, material or finish of a product
  • Wardrobe and props: a jacket, a lamp, a car
  • The setting, season or light around the same performance
  • Grey previs blocking turned into a finished-looking shot

An edit is billed for the clip it returns plus the clip you send: this 8-second one cost $1.06 at 720p. It is a mode of Seedance 2.5 and Seedance 2.5 Upscaled, not a separate model.

Seedance 2.5 Extend Keep the shot going.

Seedance 2.5 continues a clip from its last frame. Describe what happens next and choose how many seconds to add; the new footage keeps the look, the light and the camera of the original.

Input still: a paper-craft miniature city at dusk with lit windows, a paper bridge over a folded paper river and paper clouds on threads.
It started as this still. Seedance 2.5 animated it into the first 6 seconds, then extended that clip by 6 more; we joined the two at 0:06.
Prompt and settings

Image to video: The paper-craft city comes to life at dusk. The paper windows light up one by one, the folded paper river ripples and flows under the bridge, a small paper train crosses the bridge from left to right, and the paper clouds sway gently on their threads. Slow, smooth push-in toward the bridge. Tabletop macro look, warm practical light. Audio: soft paper rustling, a tiny train whistle, gentle music box melody. Extension: Extend @Video 1 forward by 6 seconds, continuing seamlessly from its last frame. The little paper train finishes crossing the bridge and rolls behind the blue paper buildings, the windows keep glowing, and a round paper moon slowly lowers on a thread into the dusk sky above the river. Same tabletop macro look, same warm light, same slow push-in. Audio: soft paper rustling and a tiny train whistle fading away.

How to extend a clip

  1. 1

Send the clip as @Video 1

A render you like that ends too soon, 2 to 30 seconds long.

  2. 2

    Describe what happens next

Ask Seedance 2.5 to continue from the last frame, then write the next beat with the same look, light and camera move.

  3. 3

Set duration to the seconds to add

With aspect_ratio on adaptive. You get the new footage only, starting on the last frame, ready to join to the original.

When to extend

  • Stretch a shot that is too short for the cut
  • Play out the next beat of a scene in the same shot
  • Turn a still into a longer scene: animate it, then extend it

An extension is billed for the new seconds plus the clip you send: this 6-second one cost $0.80 at 720p. It is a mode of Seedance 2.5 and Seedance 2.5 Upscaled, not a separate model.

More ways to direct Seedance 2.5

Write the shots, hand it references, frame it for any screen, or lead with sound. Every clip here was rendered on Segmind for this page, with its prompt, settings and cost.

Multi-shot scenes with dialogue

Write Shot 1:, Shot 2: and so on in one prompt and Seedance 2.5 cuts between them in a single clip, with each line spoken in sync with the lips that say it.

Shot 3, the father:
“You came back.”
Shot 4, the daughter:
“I never really left.”
Prompt and settings

Shot 1: Wide shot. A rain-soaked train platform at night. A Black man in his sixties in a grey wool overcoat waits alone under a flickering lamp, holding a folded umbrella. Shot 2: Medium shot. A train slides to a stop, doors hiss open, and a young woman in a dark green raincoat steps off, sees him, and stops. Shot 3: Close-up on the man. His face softens and he says quietly, "You came back." Shot 4: Close-up on the woman, eyes wet, she answers, "I never really left." Moody cinematic lighting, reflections on wet concrete, 35mm film look. Audio: steady rain, train brakes hissing, a distant platform announcement, the two voices clear and intimate.

@Image 1Reference image: a small orange gardening robot with one cyan camera eye, rubber grippers, treads and a brass watering can.
@Image 2Reference image: the inside of a Victorian glass greenhouse in morning light, with a brick path between rows of potted plants.
Output

Up to 50 references

Seedance 2.5 takes up to 30 images, 10 videos and 10 audio files in one request, cited in the prompt as @Image 1, @Video 1 and @Audio 1. Here @Image 1 fixes the robot and @Image 2 the greenhouse.

Prompt and settings

The orange gardening robot from @Image 1 rolls down the brick path of the greenhouse from @Image 2 in early morning light. It stops beside a row of terracotta pots, lifts its brass watering can and waters a fern, its cyan eye glowing softly, then turns its head toward the camera and tilts it curiously. Keep the robot's design, colours and proportions exactly as in @Image 1 and the greenhouse exactly as in @Image 2. Slow dolly alongside the robot, mist in the sun rays, cinematic. Audio: soft whirring servos, treads on brick, water pouring, birdsong outside the glass.

  • Up to 10 MP3 files, 2 to 30 s each, 30 s combined
  • Cite them in the prompt as @Audio 1, @Audio 2
  • Set generate_audio to false for a silent clip at the same price

Any frame, 9:16 to 21:9

Prompt and settings

Film previsualization, ultrawide. A crew of three in dark tactical clothing crosses a moonlit rooftop in a dense city: a woman with a coiled rope leads, a tall man carries a hard case, a younger man checks a handheld scanner. Crane shot that starts high and wide over the rooftops and descends behind them as they reach the edge, then they crouch and look down at a glowing glass atrium below. Three models, one engine

Draft cheap. Finish sharp.

Segmind serves Seedance 2.5 as three models behind one API key. They share the engine and every feature on this page; they differ in how a shot reaches its final resolution and what that costs.

Seedance 2.5

seedance-2.5

Renders natively at 480p, 720p or 1080p (10-bit colour) at 24 fps. The only variant with draft mode.

Pick it for drafts, and for finals where fine text or small faces in wide shots need the model’s own detail.

seedance-2.5-upscaled

Renders one step lower, then AI-upscales to 720p, 1080p or 4K. Always delivered as H.264 that plays in every browser.

Pick it for sharp delivery at a lower price: 1080p costs about 57% less than native, and 4K is only here.

Seedance 2.5 Draft Final

seedance-2.5-draft-final

Takes the draft_task_id of a 480p Seedance 2.5 draft and renders that exact shot, motion and audio at 1080p.

Pick it once a draft is approved. The prompt, references, length and seed are inherited from the draft.

The draft, then final workflow

  1. 1

    Draft at 480p

Iterate on the prompt with draft set to true. A 5-second draft costs $0.53, so five tries cost less than one native 1080p render ($2.94).

  2. 2

    Approve one take

Keep the draft_task_id of the take you like. Re-running the same seed at 1080p gives different footage, so the id is what keeps the shot.

  3. 3

    Finish it

Send the id to Seedance 2.5 Draft Final for the same shot at 1080p, or move the prompt to Seedance 2.5 Upscaled for a fresh take at 1080p or 4K.

Field notes

What we learned running Seedance 2.5 in production

Segmind has served Seedance 2.5 to production teams since August 2026. These are the problems they run into, and the fixes that work.

1080p plays as a black screen on Windows

Native Seedance 2.5 output at 1080p is 10-bit HEVC. Chrome and Firefox on Windows cannot decode it, so they play the audio over a blank frame.

Fix: Set output_codec to h264 for previews and web embeds: same price, a few seconds longer. Keep auto for the 10-bit master when the file goes into a grade. Seedance 2.5 Upscaled always delivers H.264.

  • output_codec: "h264"

A face in the first frame gets blocked

Images of real human faces in first_frame_url are blocked by ByteDance content policy, so a portrait start frame fails before rendering.

Fix: Put people in reference_images and cite them in the prompt as @Image 1. It also holds identity better: a first frame used for a face tends to fight the camera move.

  • reference_images
  • @Image 1

First frame and references do not mix

A first or last frame cannot be combined with reference images, videos or audio in one request.

Fix: Choose one mode per shot: first and last frame for a controlled transition, or references for identity, motion and sound. The Segmind playground offers them as separate modes and keeps your uploads when you switch.

  • first_frame_url
  • reference_*

Fixed aspect ratios are rejected with inputs

A first frame, an edit or an extension only accepts aspect_ratio adaptive, because the output keeps the geometry of what you sent.

Fix: Use adaptive whenever the request carries a first frame or a clip to change, and a fixed ratio such as 16:9 or 9:16 for text and reference shots.

  • aspect_ratio: "adaptive"

Edits need duration -1

An edit with a fixed duration is rejected.

Fix: Set duration to -1 so the output follows the input clip, which must be 4 to 30 seconds long. For an extension, set duration to the seconds you want to add.

  • duration: -1

Reference video is billed too

Video to video bills the reference footage on top of the output: billed seconds are the output plus the total reference length, never less than two-thirds of the output.

Fix: Trim each reference to the part that matters and attach only the ones you cite. With a reference as long as the output, video to video costs about 20% more than the same clip from text.

  • reference_videos

Same seed, new resolution, different shot

Re-rendering an approved 480p take at 1080p with the same prompt, seed and references returns materially different footage.

Fix: Draft with draft set to true and send the draft_task_id to Seedance 2.5 Draft Final within 7 days. That keeps the composition, motion and audio of the take you approved.

  • draft: true
  • draft_task_id

Renders take minutes, and vary

The 30-day average is about 4 minutes for native Seedance 2.5 and about 6 for Upscaled, and identical requests can differ by minutes.

Fix: Submit to the /v2 endpoint and poll the request instead of holding a connection open, and set client timeouts well above 3 minutes.

  • /v2
  • poll

Your balance dips more than the clip costs

Segmind holds credits when a request starts, sized from the model’s recent average cost, so a short clip can briefly reserve more than it will cost.

Fix: The hold settles to the actual price when the clip finishes and the rest returns at once. Failed generations are not billed. Keep enough balance for the hold, or a cheap clip can return 406.

  • HTTP 406

Chain shots from the last frame

Long sequences need each clip to start where the last one ended, and last_frame_url is an input that steers how a clip ends, not the frame it produced.

Fix: Set return_last_frame to true and feed video.last_frame_url from the response into the next request’s first_frame_url.

  • return_last_frame: true

Every parameter is documented in the Seedance 2.5 API reference.

Seedance 2.5 FAQ

What is Seedance 2.5?

Seedance 2.5 is ByteDance's video generation model, publicly released on 31 July 2026. It turns a prompt, a first frame or up to 50 image, video and audio references into clips of 4 to 30 seconds with native audio, and it can edit or extend an existing clip. Segmind runs Seedance 2.5 through a pay-as-you-go API.

How much does Seedance 2.5 cost on Segmind?

Seedance 2.5 costs $0.1065 per second at 480p, $0.2389 at 720p and $0.5876 at 1080p for a 16:9 clip on Segmind, so a 5-second 720p clip costs $1.19 (as of 29 Oct 2026). Audio is included at no extra cost. Seedance 2.5 Upscaled delivers 1080p for $1.26 per 5 seconds.

What is the difference between Seedance 2.5 and Seedance 2.5 Upscaled?

Seedance 2.5 Upscaled renders one resolution step lower and upscales the result, so 1080p costs $1.26 per 5 seconds instead of $2.94 natively, and 4K is available at $3.21 (as of 29 Oct 2026). Choose native Seedance 2.5 when fine text or small faces in wide shots need the model's own detail.

How is Seedance 2.5 different from Seedance 2.0?

Seedance 2.5 doubles the clip length to 30 seconds, takes up to 30 images, 10 videos and 10 audio files as references (Seedance 2.0 takes 9, 3 and 3), can work from an audio reference alone, and edits or extends existing clips. Seedance 2.0 still renders natively in 4K and costs less per second.

How long can a Seedance 2.5 video be?

A Seedance 2.5 video can be 4 to 30 seconds long from a single request, either one continuous take or a sequence written as Shot 1:, Shot 2: in the prompt. For an edit, set duration to -1 so Seedance 2.5 matches the length of the input clip.

Can Seedance 2.5 edit or extend an existing video?

Yes. Pass the clip to Seedance 2.5 as a reference video and describe the change, such as a new colour for one object, with duration set to -1; it keeps the framing, light and camera move. To extend, ask it to continue the clip and set the seconds to add. Both need aspect_ratio set to adaptive.

How is video-to-video billed on Seedance 2.5?

Seedance 2.5 bills reference videos as well as the output, at a lower per-second rate. Billed seconds are the output length plus the total reference length, with a minimum of two-thirds of the output. A 10-second 720p clip with a 10-second reference costs $2.86 (as of 29 Oct 2026). Trim references to the part you need.

Why does my Seedance 2.5 1080p video play as a black screen?

Native Seedance 2.5 output at 1080p is 10-bit HEVC, which Chrome and Firefox on Windows cannot decode, so they play the audio over a blank frame. Set output_codec to h264 for browser previews at no extra cost, and keep auto for grading. Seedance 2.5 Upscaled always delivers H.264.

Why was my Seedance 2.5 image to video request rejected?

Seedance 2.5 blocks images of real human faces in first_frame_url under ByteDance's content policy, and it rejects a first frame combined with reference media. Put characters in reference_images instead, cited as @Image 1 in the prompt, and keep aspect_ratio on adaptive whenever you send a first frame.

What is the cheapest way to iterate with Seedance 2.5?

Draft Seedance 2.5 at 480p for $0.53 per 5 seconds (as of 29 Oct 2026) with draft set to true. Re-rendering the same seed at a higher resolution gives different footage, so send an approved draft's draft_task_id to Seedance 2.5 Draft Final within 7 days to get the same shot at 1080p.

How do I use the Seedance 2.5 API?

Create a Segmind API key, then POST your prompt to https://api.segmind.com/v1/seedance-2.5 with the key in the x-api-key header. Seedance 2.5 takes about four minutes on average, so in production submit to the /v2 endpoint and poll the request. The model page has curl, Python and JavaScript examples.

Your first 30-second take is one request away.

One API key, every Seedance 2.5 model, from $0.53 per 5-second draft.
